Jon Jones Quietly Walks Away: ‘My gloves are hung up, No more fighting’
Jon Jones has finally decided to bid farewell to the fight game. The former UFC two-division champion retired last year and vacated his heavyweight championship instead of fighting then-interim-champion Tom Aspinall.
However, as soon as the White House card was announced, Jones decided to jump right back in the testing pool. He showed interest in fighting on the South Lawn on June 14, and despite suffering from severe hip arthritis, Jones was game to show up at the White House and throw down. He even received stem cell therapy so that he can start training camp.
However, after the UFC Freedom 250 lineup was announced, Jones’ name was not present.
Dana White has stated that the company was never looking forward to putting Jones on the White House card. However, “Bones” has claimed that he was in negotiations with the UFC brass but was lowballed, and therefore, he decided not to fight.
“Bones” wanted to fight Alex Pereira on his return, but now “Poatan” is fighting Ciryl Gane at the White House for the interim heavyweight throne.
White has already told the media that Jon Jones is retired and will never set foot in the octagon again. Now the 38-year-old has weighed in on the same.
Jon Jones is done fighting
During an interview with Red Corner MMA, Jon Jones confessed that he’s done with fighting and is now looking forward to focusing on his ventures outside the octagon and making more money. He said:
“My gloves are hung up. I am chilling these days. You got business, Jon Jones. No more fighting Jon Jones.”
