Ben Askren will be taking on Jake Paul on the 17th of April in an eight-round pro Boxing match. The fight will mark the debut of former UFC fighter Ben Askren, and ‘Funky’ Ben has been taking things seriously, as there is hardly a month left for the fight. He even recently caught up with legendary Boxing trainer Freddie Roach and trained alongside him.
Speaking in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ben Askren revealed his experience of training with Freddie Roach. He went on to say that Freddie Roach is right at the top of the list of people he has trained with.
Ben Askren was quoted as saying, “He was awesome. It was great getting a week to spend out there and just watch the way he works and watch other boxers in his gym work. He was great, I picked up quite a few things from him and I’ve had the luxury of being able to work with quite a few good people but he would be at the top of the list.” [H/T LowBro-Sports]
Ben Askren last sporting event was in the UFC. He took on Demian Maia in October 2019 and lost the match via. submission. A badly damaged hip and other problems forced him to announce his retirement from the sport. Ben is an accomplished wrestler as well.
Jake Paul, on the other hand made his pro boxing debut, only in 2020. He took on fellow YouTuber AnesonGib on his debut and knocked him out in the first round. He then faced ex-basketballer Nate Robinson on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. Jake knocked the lights out on Nate in only the second round and sent a sound warning that he meant business.
