Respite for Tom Aspinall as Dana White confirms Jon Jones’ retirement
The long-awaited Tom Aspinall vs. Jon Jones clash might be a no-show going forward as UFC President Dana White confirmed that Jon Jones has officially retired. Speaking to the reporters following UFC Baku, White stated that Jones had notified him yesterday of the same.
This will see Tom Aspinall become the undisputed champion. While it’s respite for the Englishman, it has still come at a cost after days and days of waiting patiently for the fight that never came. The opponent Aspinall will be facing in his first title defense has not been confirmed yet.
Jon Jones had just one title defense as the heavyweight champion
While there is no denying the fact that Jon Jones is one of the , if not the greatest fighter ever, his heavyweight legacy, when looked back, would certainly feel pretty average. Since 2023, after capturing the title by breezing past Ciryl Gane, Jones made just one title defense, that too against a retiring Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 back in November 2024.
