UFC Fight Night 185, witnessed one of the most massive weight misses, one would ever see. Rafael Alves, who was set to make his UFC debut against Patrick Sabatini (featherweight division), weighed in at a flabbergasting 157.5 pounds, 11.5 pounds more than the allowed weight. How staggering is that, coming from a debutant?

As a result, the bout which was on the prelims card of the event was cancelled. It would have been the biggest weight miss ever recorded in the UFC, had the fight gone ahead as a catchweight bout.

The dubious record stays with ‘Rumble’!

The biggest ever weight miss recorded in UFC history is Anthony Johnson against Vitor Belfort in 2012. ‘Rumble’ missed weight by a whopping 11lbs, as the fight went ahead as a catchweight bout, only for ‘Rumble’ to lose the contest in the very first round. [via MMA Junkie]

Coming from a debutant – it is absolutely reckless from Rafael Alves. That’s not how you leave your mark, ahead of your debut. Another amusing fact is that; Alves would have missed weight, even if it had been a lightweight bout (by 1.5 pounds)!
