UFC Fight Night 185 : Derrick Lewis demolishes Curtis Blaydes with a thunderous uppercut; calls out Stipe Miocic!

The win saw Lewis equal the record for most knockout wins in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

Derrick ‘The Black Beast’ Lewis

The main event of UFC Fight Night 185, was contested between number 2 ranked heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes and number 4 ranked Derrick Lewis. Blaydes was looking for a win and getting ‘that much elusive title shot’, whereas Lewis was looking to move further up the rankings, in order to test the division’s best.

Going into the fight, Blaydes seemed to have the upper hand in the first round, as a few of his blows, landed clean on Lewis, hurting him. Lewis, came out like a man possessed in the second round. He knocked the lights out on Curtis Blaydes with a vicious uppercut, and followed it up with some heavy fists. The win also earned Lewis a performance of the night bonus and he also equaled the record for the most knockout victories in the UFC’s heavyweight division (12).

It makes no sense to me that he’s fighting for the title

Speaking at the post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, Derrick Lewis expressed his desire to take on Jon Jones, current champion Stipe Miocic and even Israel Adesanya. “I heard Jon Jones was coming up. It makes no sense to me that he’s fighting for the title, but pretty sure that Izzy is going to come up and fight at heavyweight, so we’ll just see. I guess Stipe. I like them wrestlers“, Lewis said.

Well, Lewis is certain that he will go for another ride towards the title shot. He has already fought once for the title, at UFC 230, against Daniel Cormier. He lost the match pretty tamely – via submission in the second round.

Can Lewis reign supreme in the tough-as-nails division?
