Steve Garcia Eyes Alexander Volkanovski With Cold-Blooded Warning
Steve Garcia has his next assignment scheduled. However, “Mean Machine” has even bigger plans.
Garcia is going to lock horns with former title challenger Diego Lopes on June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House. The Garcia vs. Lopes featherweight contest will kickstart UFC Freedom 250.
However, the No. 9-ranked featherweight contender, currently riding a seven-fight win streak, is already looking past the Lopes fight and has his crosshairs firmly set on current and two-time UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Steve Garcia plans to retire Alexander Volkanovski
During a recent appearance on Smash Cast’s Undefeated & Undisputed, Steve Garcia had a message for “The Great.”
The 33-year-old knockout artist wants to first send Diego Lopes to the shadow realm on June 14, make his home crowd and country proud, and then call out the Australian champ.
Garcia added during the interview that Alexander Volkanovski no longer has the attributes he had in his prime and that he will retire “The Great” if he ever gets to throw down with the 37-year-old.
“I’m calling for that strap [After I beat Lopes on June 14 in R1]. Give me that strap. That’s what I want. Honestly, I feel like Volk should retire cuz if he doesn’t, I’m gonna retire him. That’s what is going through my head right now… In my head, every time I see Volk, I’m like, he’s not the Volk of old, and there are ways to beat this guy. I think if I can get to him, I can do it.”

Volkanovski, on the other hand, is expected to lock horns with No. 1 UFC featherweight contender Movsar Evloev next.
