Khabib Nurmagomedov recently announced that he has officially retired from the sport of MMA.
Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement at UFC 254, on the 24th of October, 2020, after beating Justin Gaethje via submission in the second round. However, there were rumors afloat that ‘The Dagestani’ would come back to the octagon. Recently Khabib ended all the doubts surrounding his retirement, as he officially confirmed his retirement, which was later confirmed by the bossman Dana White.
Speaking about this in the recent episode of DC & Helwani MMA Show, Daniel Cormier reflected upon the ‘ultra-rare breed that is – Khabib Nurmagomedov. A close aide of the Dagestani himself, DC also revealed that there wouldn’t have ever been a time when Dana White had put so much pressure on someone and still failed.
‘A guy in his position makes up his mind, nothing’s gonna change‘ – Daniel Cormier on Khabib Nurmagomedov
DC was quoted as saying, “When someone [like Khabib], especially a guy in his position makes up his mind, nothing’s gonna change. And, I don’t know if there has ever been a time where Dana’s put that much pressure on someone and they’ve actually been able to stand firm. All across the board though man, everything was done.” [H/T LowBro-Sports]
He added, “The UFC did what they needed to do and Khabib once again proves that he is of a different breed than anything we’ve ever seen before.” [H/T LowBro-Sports]
‘The Eagle’ knows when to retire. A man of his word – no lucrative deal or any form of cash would have lured the Dagestani to comeback. He will go down in the sport as arguably the greatest fighter of all time (surely the greatest lightweight of all time).
