‘I’ll go up to 170 to fight Nate’ – Dustin Poirier on a possible fight with Nate Diaz
Dustin is the number one ranked lightweight contender, now
The lightweight division spotlight right now is on Dustin Poirier. After demolishing Conor McGregor at UFC 257, he has moved on to become the number one ranked lightweight contender. More recently, ‘The Diamond’ has shown interest in taking on the ‘Stockton Slugger’ Nate Diaz.
Speaking in the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Dustin Poirier revealed that he was willing to move up to the 170lbs division to take on Nate Diaz. He reiterated that Nate Diaz has been a guy he has always wanted to fight.
‘Me and him were supposed to fight at Madison Square Garden‘
Poirier was quoted as saying, “Before I’m done fighting, I’ll go up to 170. Yeah, I’ll go up to 170 to fight Nate. Me and him were supposed to fight at Madison Square Garden. I kind of was the fall guy—He gets to point and say I pulled out of the fight and I did. I went to get stem cells done on my hip.” [via BJPenn.com]
He continued, “But I was going to fight, I was going to go through a camp and fight him if they wouldn’t have started offering me other replacement opponents, Nate was playing games with the UFC, UFC started offering me opponents and I said, ‘Look guys, if this is happening, I’m just going to have my hip taken care of.’ He’s a guy I’ve always wanted to fight.” [via BJPenn.com]
Right now, Dustin is also focused on a trilogy fight with Conor McGregor. Nate Diaz, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since 2019, November and is expected to make a return to the octagon this year.
